There are certain parts of a tooth that are simply out of reach in the course of nonsurgical work. If a root canal procedure or x-ray does not reveal the source of a tooth that is causing issues with pain or sensitivity, surgery can reveal portions of the roots that are not typically accessible. To restore a problem in this area, an apicoectomy – sometimes called a root-end resection – will be performed.
During your apicoectomy, the end of a tooth’s root can be carefully revealed and removed by your endodontic specialist. To protect the tooth after the root end’s removal, a filling is put in place to keep the tooth sealed. By addressing the tooth from this position, it becomes possible to treat issues that cannot be addressed through a routine root canal procedure. While this is not the only surgical dental procedure available, it is one that often resolves problems that require surgery.
During endodontic treatment, advance planning and imaging offer important benefits. With the technology available at our practice, we can gather clear images that help us work toward a successful treatment. Microscopes, ultrasonic tools, and special lighting tools will help reveal problems that are particularly difficult to identify and work on so that your tooth can be saved!
Is there any way to save your tooth if a regular root canal procedure cannot address your problem? At our El Paso, TX endodontic treatment office, Dr. Yuto Endo can use skill and technology to locate and treat issues through surgical care. By doing so, a particularly vulnerable tooth can be saved, and your smile can remain fully intact!
