An advanced cavity or injury may affect an area of your tooth that is not easily identified with an x-ray, or in the course of a nonsurgical dental procedure. This does not mean that the tooth’s damage is not treatable, or that an extraction is the only recourse left to improve your oral health. If you have a problem that requires oral surgery, or if you have issues with a tooth that has already undergone a root canal procedure in the past, we can discuss procedures that can restore and save it!
During a traditional root canal procedure, problems with a tooth’s pulp are addressed via the removal of unhealthy or infected tissues, as well as bacteria, before the area is safely sealed. Root canals make it possible to save teeth that become infected due to an advanced cavity, or because your pulp is exposed after an injury. While this is a common form of endodontic care, our practice can offer other services to make sure a problem is fully addressed. That can mean performing an apicoectomy, which tends to problems at the tooth’s root end, or it can mean performing retreatment if a restored tooth exhibits new problems.
In addition to dealing with injuries and infections in difficult to access areas, our practice can provide support for teeth that are not currently strong enough to hold dental crowns. A Post And Core treatment or Core Buildup may be appropriate actions to strengthen a tooth and provide stability for a restoration. Through this work, we can prevent the need for extraction and prosthetic treatment!
