Will A Root Canal Be Enough To Fully Restore Your Tooth?

There are several treatment approaches available to deal with an injury or cavity. If a problem with decay is caught in time, the placement of a dental filling may be all that it takes to properly restore a tooth. However, there are many cases that call for a more involved treatment. Root canal therapy is performed on a tooth when there is a need to address an internal problem. Unfortunately, sometimes even root canal therapy is not equipped to fully address a dental issue. To stop a problem that would otherwise lead to tooth loss, you can talk with an endodontic treatment specialist. Our practice is prepared to provide advanced endodontic procedures that are able to address problems that are out of reach for a traditional dental office. We can also do work to restore the core of a tooth that has already been cared for in order to help it support a restoration after treatment.

The Role Endodontic Treatment Plays In Dental Care

Endodontic treatments address problems within a tooth, many of which lie out of the reach of conventional dental offices. This may mean providing a root canal procedure, but there are other treatments capable of addressing harder to access problems. We can also provide assistance if you need to have work done on a tooth that has already undergone restorative work, or if you need to have a tooth restored sufficiently to hold a dental crown in place.

Dealing With An Oral Health Issue Through Oral Surgery

Oral surgery can save a vulnerable tooth by allowing us to treat areas that are difficult to access through traditional dental practices. When necessary, we can carefully work around periodontal and bone tissues to take care of cracks or infections that affect a tooth’s roots. One common form of oral surgery to save a tooth is an apicoectomy. During this procedure, the tooth is accessed so that the root end can be carefully removed, the tooth treated, and the root restored with a special filling to seal it back up. With advanced imaging technology like microscopes and special lighting devices, we can closely study an area set for treatment to make sure problems are properly addressed.

Rebuilding A Tooth To Support A Restoration

After treatment, a tooth may have too little structure left to hold a dental crown. Rather than extract the tooth and put a patient through the process of securing a prosthetic, we can use a post and core or core buildup to retain that tooth. These services make it possible for what is left of your tooth structure to hold a crown securely enough to let you bite, chew, and speak without difficulty.
